Pope Francis underwent surgery for a hernia in the abdominal wall. The surgery lasted about 3 hours under general anesthesia.

He is expected to remain in hospital for several days as a precaution. All events he was expected to attend have been cancelled until June 18. The Pope was in a mood of hypnotic and fully conscious at the end of the event. The current surgery removed scarred tissue areas that had created pain in recent months.
