'Winter protein' found, gives sensation of cold. Discovery will also allow us to understand why some patients, such as those undergoing chemotherapy, experience cold differently and offers a therapeutic target to help those who have painful reactions to low temperatures.

The result was published in the journal Nature Neuroscience by a group of researchers led by the American University of Michigan. The protein is a protein called GluK2, confirmed thanks to experiments conducted on mice. It is present in the brain, where it receives chemical signals to facilitate communication between neurons.
