Germany spends 1,179 billion euros, around 1.2 trillion euros annually. In 1992 it was 448.3 billion euros.

Social spending has almost tripled in the last 30 years. In 2024, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs alone will have a share of 36.84 percent. Left-wing politician Matthias Birkwald warns against the “alarmism” of the ‘welfare state panickers’ of the FDP, CDU and CSU.
