The attack on the border in which three IDF soldiers fell this morning was reminiscent of the terrorist act carried out by Ayman Muhammad Hosni, an Egyptian Border Police officer. The terrorist managed to escape and was sentenced in Egypt to 12 years in prison.
Egypt claimed today that the policeman who carried out the attack and was eventually killed by IDF forces crossed the border into Israel in pursuit of drug smugglers. It is unclear why he shot dead the two fighters at the guard post and then Ohad Dahan in an encounter that eventually killed the Egyptian policeman.
