Around 700 sheep are to keep the meadows around Nuremberg Airport short. The biting and kicking of the sheep in the soil create different habitats in the grass.
This attracts insects that are food for birds and even bats. The use of the flock of sheep helps to feed the green areas at the airport and the sheep, but also to get other animal species to the airport. The military exercise "Air Defender" is to cause delays at the site, but no flights are to be cancelled.
