The first major global vaccination campaign against malaria starts in Cameroon. The African continent accounts for 94% of the world's malaria cases.

In 2022, there will be 249 million cases of malaria worldwide, causing 608,000 deaths. The RTS,S antimalarial vaccine, also known as Mosquirix, was the first approved by the World Health Organization to combat the Plasmodium falciparum parasite. It will be administered free of charge to children between six months and five years old.
