José Navarro, councilor of the Popular Party of Elche, denies that he committed an “act of a sexual nature” under the throne of the Santísimo Cristo de la Columna. The mayor, Pablo Ruz, acknowledges that he went to the temple that houses the throne with a group of friends and that he was under the influence of alcohol, but insists that “In no case” did he commit the acts “of a sexualnature” that are attributed to him.

The socialists have described the events as “very serious” with “behavior that is absolutely inappropriate, intolerable and shameful” on the part of the PP and VOX government councilor and a public servant for the Municipal Group. The councilor clarifies that he has expressed his regret to those responsible for the church and the brotherhood from which he has withdrawn “so as not to tarnish his name” and has filed a complaint in Court against those who have spread this malicious rumor.
