The victim, identified as Ricardo Akins, was 64 years old and a retired non-commissioned officer in the Marine Corps. The tragic episode occurred around 6 p.m.

on 1900 Illia Street, in that district in the south of the Buenos Aires suburbs. Akins was unloading objects from a gray Volkswagen Amarok with his partner, a former City police officer, when they were approached by two criminals. After a struggle, the thieves shot the guards. The victim, who was a member of the Amphibious Commando Group during the war against the UK, died instantly.
