A mayoral candidate was shot dead in Mexico while presenting her security proposal. Bertha Gisela Gaytán Gutiérrez was seeking the mayoralty of a state in the center of the country.

"It's a sad day," President Andrés Manuel López Obrador lamented. Mexico will hold presidential elections on June 2, in which dozens of local positions will also be renewed. 50 people have been murdered in "episodes of electoral violence", consultancy Laboratorio Electoral says.
