A new conviction for pedophilia hits the Catholic Church in Costa Rica. The sentence imposes 18 years in prison on priest Manuel Guevara for sexually abusing a 12-year-old boy.

The victim suffered a wave of lies and harassment when he reported the events in Coronado. “I always had faith that this was going to be the sentence, but now I feel very relieved,” the young man told EL PAÍS. In Costa Rica, the only confessional state in America, it has been a turbulent five-year period.
