A severe winter storm blanketed the northeastern United States on Tuesday. More than 1,000 flights were delayed or canceled.

About 155,000 homes and businesses were without power in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and West Virginia. In New York, rain turned to snow early in the morning, creating hazardous driving conditions. The city was expected to receive up to 8 inches of snow throughout the day, creating a winter storm warning for much of the city. The storm caused schools to close and wreaked havoc on air travel.
