Around 200 employees of the Weilheim-Schongau GmbH hospital were laid off shortly before Christmas. The district provided millions for the necessary severance payments.

Now they are already looking for employees again. The selection of those who had to leave the company was solely based on social points, says Claus Rauschmeier, deputy managing director of the hospital. He says there is no set vesting period, but there is a self-imposed shame period: Anyone who has been terminated and who wants to return to us must forego their severance payment at least in 2024. So far there have only been two cases of employees being rehired by the hospital GmbBH, says Raushmeier. The works council was intensively involved in the development of the social plan, and supported all decisions, he says. But he adds: “There were exceptions, but they had to be very precisely in order to justify the indispensability of individual employees”
