The Renaissance group tabled a proposed resolution that it plans to submit to a vote the week of June 17. The text aims in particular to consider the revolutionary guards of the Islamic Republic as "terrorists." It is a message of firmness that the deputies of Emmanuel Macron's party want to send to the Iranian regime.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for the Revolutionary Guards to be considered "terrorist organizations" in January 2023. At the time, the initiative was presented as a response to the crackdown on anti-government protests. A large movement crossed Iran after the death in detention of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish Iranian woman arrested for wearing inappropriate clothing, according to Astrid Panosyan-Bouvet, co-signatory of the text. It is about denouncing "a regime from another age," insists MP Astrid Panosian-Bouchard. "The repression affects the entire Iranian population," she says.
