From 8,815 primitive dogs registered in the LOF 10 years ago in France, there are now 20,035 to be listed. Some of these dogs even appear in the ranking of the French's favorite dog breeds.

So-called primitive dogs have been popularized recently by YouTubers, actors and celebrities. Cinema may also have played a role in the popularity of certain breeds, when a dog figures prominently, writes Philippe Lecomte. The Siberian Husky and the German Spitz are among the top 20 in 2023, he says.
