There has been discussion about Alberdi's influence on the historic Constitution of 1853. The text was sanctioned on May 1 of that year, promulgated by Urquiza on May 25 and sworn by the people on July 9.

Many denied his influence, starting with Miter and Sarmiento and historians who followed that line. In difficult times it is good to recreate the debate of the founding ideas and remember the visionaries who imagined a possible country based on freedom and the rule of law.
