Authorities estimate that the number of victims is expected to jump. The fire services are struggling to control the flames in the Valparaiso area in the center of the country.

"I've been here 32 years, and I never imagined this would happen. I was left with nothing," said a resident who lost his home. The fires are now threatening the outskirts of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso, two beach towns popular with tourists, both have more than a million inhabitants.
