American sculptor Richard Serra, known as the 'poet of iron', dies at 85. His death was confirmed Tuesday night by his attorney, John Silberman, whose law firm is based in New York.

He added that the cause of death was pneumonia. Known to his colleagues as the Iron Poet, Serra became world famous for his large-scale steel structures, such as monumental arches, spirals, and ellipses. He was closely linked to the minimalist movement of the 1970s. In 2005, eight major works by Serra were installed in the Guggenheim Museum in Spain.
