The average temperature in mainland France reached a new early heat record on Saturday, beating the previous one which dated from April 6. Several heat records for the month of April were recorded across the country, with maximum temperatures of 28°C to almost 32°C in the southern half of the country on Friday and Saturday.

For more than two years, monthly temperatures in France have no longer fallen below seasonal norms, a reference calculated on the average of the last three decades. April 2024 could become the 26th month in a row to be higher or equal to seasonal norms. The climate in France is warming up significantly, according to the Météo France observatory, which also noted several local monthly records between 28°c and 32°c. The national thermal indicator (ITN) had already established a new reference on April 6 with 17.6°C recorded, before the arrival of a cold front which caused temperatures to drop between Sunday and Monday.
