An inmate found hanging at Epinal prison, third suicide in two months. A 73-year-old man, remanded in custody for rape and fraud, killed himself in his cell.
On February 3 and 16, two other inmates at the remand center, aged 23 and 38, also committed suicide. According to statistics from the Ministry of Justice, 281 men were imprisoned as of February 1 in this establishment which has 298 places, i.e. a prison density of 94%. In 2022, 125 incarcerated people died by suicide in France.
