In the Italian region of Abruzzo, a wolf has been living in an enclosure and has been friendly to humans. But removing the protected wolf from the wild does not necessarily mean that the animal has to be killed. It's certainly not worth the risk of an attack in a fatal way, but it's certainly a risk that would be fatal.
