Anti-pollution measures have improved the air Europeans breathe, but not enough. A study highlights the significant reduction in the concentration of particles and nitrogen dioxide experienced in 35 countries in the last two decades.

Around 98.1%, 80.15% and 86.34% of the population of the 35 European countries lived in 2019 in areas of unsafe air for PM, PM, ozone and NO. The WHO lowered the exposure limits that are considered safe for the four main air pollutants in the study.
