From November it will in fact be possible to access do-it-yourself repair tools by also selecting individual replacement parts that are not new, always original, but used. Until now, before mounting a component on an iPhone, Apple required it to be verified through a pairing, which ensured that the replacement was actually new.

From November, there will no longer be this need, with the opening to used parts. The parts checker will only show whether a part is genuine Apple, new, or used. According to Apple, in five years the number of service centers with access to original Apple components, tools and training courses for more than 10 thousand independent repair and authorized service providers has almost doubled. The home repair program for various Apple devices arrived in Italy in 2022. It will be available in the U.S. as well as in Europe and Latin America in the next few years, the company says. It is not yet clear if the plans will be rolled out in other countries.
