In public universities, 80.9% of theses read in 2015 have gone from having the highest distinction to 85.5% in 2022. In private universities the increase has been even greater (from 68.8% to 74.4% cum laude ), but they score lower.

It can take up to eight years to read a thesis, but on average it takes 5.2 years in the public one and 4.9 in the private one. Last year there were 92,000 people enrolled in the doctorate, but 11,200 theses were read.
