Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing warns against drastic measures for drivers. The measures that may be necessary because of the dispute over a reform of the climate protection law could even go so far that there is a risk of driving bans on weekends.

The traffic light coalition is once again at odds in public. The point of contention this time: the new climate protectionLaw. It stipulates that climate-damaging emissions of greenhouse gases will be reduced by 65 percent by 2030 compared to 1990. According to the authority, the transport sector in particular needs to make adjustments when it comes to climate protection. The current law stipulates: If the permissible annual emissions amount for a sector is exceeded in a reporting year, the responsible federal ministry will submit an immediate program. This is intended to ensure compliance with the emissions levels for the sector within three months of the emissions data by the expert council for the following years. This report will be presented next Monday. The previous law looked good on paper, but in reality it had too little effect. “No pig has adhered to it.”
