Around 536,000 crimes in 2023. Most of the crimes were thefts (around 213,000).

There were also almost 100,000 scams, including fare evasion or filling up without paying. So-called crimes of brutality such as bodily harm were counted in around 70,000 cases. The police identified 140,620 suspects, around 70 percent of whom lived in Berlin. The clearance rate for these crimes was 45.5 percent (2022: 44.9 percent). It is unclear whether there has actually been more violence or whether the willingness to report such acts to the police is increasing.
