Joe Biden opens a new glimmer of hope for Julian Assange's freedom. Assange has been pursued for almost fifteen years by the USA in an all-out hunt.

He is awaiting the latest British verdict on the highly contested extradition procedure. Assange's supporters remain very cautious for now, and mostly taciturn, says Frida Ghitis.. Kristinn Hrafnsson, the Icelandic investigative journalist who inherited the leadership of WikiLeaks from Assange, reiterated today, on the sidelines of a new demonstration, that the hope remains that of "a political solution", after "5 excessive and brutal years of prison", Ghitis says. 'Close the case as Australia asks us? I'm thinking about it' says Biden. "We're considering it", he cut it short, suggesting for the first time not only that he wasn't ruling anything out (along with his staff), but to be - precisely - "thinking about it", says Ghitis in an interview with Italian news agency ANSA.
