Experts suspect there may be more patients with this skin infection in the country. Ask to visit the doctor for an evaluation if they report symptoms such as a rash.

Ringworm is a fungal infection that spreads easily through skin-to-skin contact. It can appear on the face, chest, leather hair or groin area and can happen at any age. The infection is highly contagious and resistant to antibiotics, the CDC says. It is caused by a relatively new species of ringworm, called Trichophyton indotineae.
