Filippo Tortu clocked 10''15 on his 100 meters debut in Gainesville, Florida. The Italian Olympic champion of the sprint relay achieved the best time ever recorded in his career in his race.

The 25-year-old from the Fiamme Gialle is currently training overseas in Montverde, near Orlando, where he will remain until 26 April. Tortu will compete in the 100 again next Saturday, in Clermont. He is the first Italian under 10 seconds with 9.99 in 2018 in Madrid, last season the Brianza native ran in 20.14 in the 200, reaching the Olympic standard at the absolutes in Molfetta and then with the 4x100 together with Rigali, Jacobs and Patta he climbed to the second step of the podium at the World Championships in Budapest. He will fly to the USA to the Miami rally in preparation for the World Relays in Nassau (Bahamas, 4-5 May), the world relay event that offers qualification for the Paris Olympics.
