Russia has suffered from the second Chechen war, Chechen fighters carried out assassinations and attacks on Russian soil in early 2000s. These include several suicide bombings, mass hostage-taking at Moscow's Theater Dubrovka and the attack on Moscow's Opera House in 2008. The IS splinter group Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) quickly claimed responsibility for the attack.
