The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments this Thursday on whether the 14th Amendment prevents the former president from running again for the White House. The argument materialized in dozens of lawsuits throughout the country, which crystallized in a ban in two States: Colorado and Maine.

The fourteenth is one of the most influential amendments to the Constitution because it guaranteed, after the abolition of slavery, the equality of all citizens before the law. It was also used to prohibit those who had participated in an insurrection from running for public office again.
