Controls conducted in 2021 by the repression of fraud (DGCCRF) indicated that olive oils sold in France have "a rate of anomaly still too high" 39% of the 211 establishments inspected (producers, distributors and retailers,...) in the main producing departments and in Île-de-France, had anomalies. The anomaly rate exceeds 80% for the 130 products analyzed.

According to the DGCCRF, some 110,000 tons of olive oil are consumed each year in France.
