This year marks the fifth anniversary of Hirak, a popular protest movement initiated in 2019 to oppose the election to a fifth term of Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was forced to resign. The ban is due to the risk of disturbances to public order "in the context of the Hirak anniversary and violence between antagonistic anti and pro movements"
