Spending on investments in innovative technologies amounted to 600 million euros in the two-year period 2021-2022. Further expenditure of 380 million is expected from 2025, until the projects are completed.

Overall, the investment flow associated with the projects surveyed is equal to 1.88 billion euros. The business areas that attracted the greatest economic resources were those of intermediation and payments, with investment shares equal to 43.7 and 39.4 percent of the total respectively. In particular, the fight against money laundering is being strengthened: "the share of intermediaries employing or developing technologies to fulfill anti-money laundering obligations is high and increasing compared to the previous survey (from 62 to 80 percent)", according to Bank of Italy's "Fintech survey in the Italian financial system" by Bank ofItaly. The survey highlights that "the process of digital transformation of the financial system, although expanding, is quantitatively limited and polarized" and that "digital transformation is polarized" in the financial sector.
