An 11-year-old boy gave up winning an athletics competition to help his opponent. The protagonists were two children participating in the Gran Galà Esordienti that preceded the 2nd International Meeting of the city of Lucca.
The gesture took place in front of the packed tribune that greeted the gesture with thunderous applause. The race was then won in comeback by a child from Livorno. The boy in the red jersey fell to the ground paving the way for the Virtus boy, however, with a sporting gesture.
