Bomb alert at St. Mark's Square for two abandoned bags.
The bag and trolley case were abandoned above the high-water footbridges in the iconic square. The police have cordoned off the area between the bell tower and the entrance to the Basilica. In view of the international alert, a security alarm was triggered and a large part of the square was closed off to traffic while waiting for the bomb disposal squad. The two bags had been noticed shortly before in front of the Doge's Palace.
