A former official of the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture was sentenced Monday to three years in prison. The former civil servant was suspected of assisting the illegal stay of around forty asylum seekers.

One of her colleagues at the one-stop shop for asylum applications was given 18 months in prison, 14 of which were suspended. The two agents, who were removed, are also permanently banned from holding public office. The court sentenced the asylum seekers, mainly Turkish, to sentences ranging from two to six months.
