Brazil repatriates dozens of monkeys and macaws illegally trafficked to Togo. 12 parrots of the Lear's macaw species and 17 golden lion tamarin monkeys were recovered.

The animals had crossed the Atlantic on a Brazilian-flagged sailboat, which was intercepted by Togolese police when it ran into trouble on its coast. Four men were arrested on the boat; the macaws are worth between 60,000 and 100,000 dollars in clandestine markets; the marmosets cost $15,000 each.
