Brazilian footballer Dani Alves sentenced to four and a half years in prison in Spain for raping a young woman in a nightclub. The player, who defended his innocence during the trial, will also have to pay $162,000 in compensation to the victim for the sexual assault in a Barcelona club in 2022.

Alves has been in prison since his arrest on January 20, 2023. His requests for bail were rejected because the court considered him to be a flight risk. Brazil does not extradite its citizens convicted abroad.
