British banker and philanthropist Jacob Rothschild dies at 87. Between 1991 and 1999 he was a member of the Upper House of the British Parliament, the House of Lords.

Rothschild was born in Berkshire, west of London, in 1936, and was the son of Victor Rothschild, an aristocrat known for his love of science. He began his career at the family bank in 1963, before leaving the company to chair the Rothschild Investment Trust fund, which was later renamed RIT Capital Partners, where he worked until 2019.
