Carlos Portell, historic leader of Banfield and old supporter of Julio Grondona, died. He was president of the GBA South club for 14 years.
He took it out of Ascenso and led it to win the title in 2009. But then it ended very badly and almost without being able to return to the field. His figure, however, was eroded in his last years in power, since a series of poor decisions led Banfield to the loss of category, just three years after having given that long-awaited Olympic return.
