Recep Tayyip Erdogan won 52.2% of the vote according to an almost final count. It was celebrated all night by his supporters in Turkey, but also in Germany, where there is a large Turkish community.

The Turkish presidency said that Recep Tayyip Erdogan had pleaded for "initiatives to be taken to strengthen bilateral relations", which have been undermined in recent years. German Green Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir attacked the voting behaviour of Turks in Germany. He tweeted that Erdogan supporters celebrate without having to answer for the consequences of their choice.
