Chile: they are investigating whether the start of the catastrophic fires was intentional and there are 370 missing in Viña del Mar. There were two detainees in Valparaíso, but they were released while the investigation continues.
The government suspects a criminal act. There are already at least 122 dead and 15,000 people without homes. The fires that started on Wednesday, in parallel to a heat wave with more than 40 degrees, spread in a matter of hours on Friday. These fires are among the three deadliest of the 21st century, after those in Australia in 2009 (179 deaths) and those of Hawaii in August 2023 (more than 100 deaths)
