China supports Palestine "to become a full member of the United Nations" Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this during a joint press conference with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi held in Jakarta, on the day of the vote. Wang, in his diplomatic report, also stated that "the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has caused a humanitarian disaster.

An unconditional ceasefire and a humanitarian relief mechanism should be established as soon as possible to avoid further escalation of the situation", he said. The vote took place at the Glass Palace in New York City, where the U.N. secretary-general will make a statement on Palestine's membership. The U.S. is expected to abstain from the vote, saying that it does not recognize Palestine's right to self-determination. The United States, however, will vote in favor of Palestine's bid to become a member.
