Cocoa is more expensive than ever – a concern in the confectionery industry. Some manufacturers are already assuming a harvest deficit of around 500,000 tons on the world market. The situation is also getting worse for German and European cocoa processors due to the EU. Deforestation Regulation will in future require more bureaucratic effort than in the past, says BDSI's Dr Carsten Bernoth.
