The European Commission proposed on Tuesday to aim for a net reduction of 90% by 2040 in the EU's greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990. This target for 2040, which the next Commission will have to translate into a legislative proposal, would amount to continuing the same rate of decline as over the 2020-2030 decade.
