Chile is experiencing bitter days. 130 people lost their lives, another 100 are missing, 15,000 homes were affected and the fire burned around 55,000 hectares.

Experts point out that while climatic conditions can cause the fire to spread more, the excess of non-native plants and the lack of regulation of the landscape acted as fuel. There is a large percentage of forest plantations that are not native species. And many arrived there, as part of a policy of subsidy to forestry companies during the Pinochet dictatorship.
