On April 9, 2023, several buildings in the center of Marseille collapsed, causing the death of eight people. A year later, many questions remain about the exact responsibilities which led to this tragedy, linked to a gas explosion.
“The big challenge ahead is the expertise that will make it possible to determine the origin of the explosion, but to date we have no expert report,” says lawyer for family of one of the victims. In a letter sent to the civil parties this Wednesday, aimed at providing a progress update on the investigations, the judge indicates that the fire expert and explosion designated by the public prosecutor on the day of the events asked to be relieved of his mission.
