The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) has been warning this for years. A new report published this Tuesday reveals that this fact did not change in 2023.

The four most violent departments for human rights defenders are located in the southwest. The coexistence between coca cultivation, drug trafficking and armed groups has resulted in years of bloody conflicts that control the lives of the civilian population. The report highlights that this violence was particularly directed at those who defend the environment and people with indigenous and Afro-descendant leadership.
