Arnoldo Palacios, an Afro-Colombian novelist and chronicler, was an unknown writer for much of his life. In recent years, he began to receive national recognition in dribs and drabs.

This year, on the 100th anniversary of his birth, the government of Gustavo Petro has declared this year the year of Palacio. Several writers defend the richness of his work against those who see a political interest in the celebration of the writer.
