February 13th is International Condom Day. The initiative was started by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation in 2009.

98% of new HIV cases occur from not using condoms, according to the foundation. The oldest example of a condom that has survived to this day dates back to the 17th century. The latex to make a condom comes from a tree called Hevea brasiliensis, also known as “rubber tree’sbane” The latex is extracted from the trunk of the tree and used to make the condom.
